Abstract:
Multiple sclerosis is a complex autoimmune disease with chronic inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS). new approaches need to be developed in treating this disease. CD46 is a potent costimulatory molecule that induces T cell differentiation toward a regulatory Tr1 phenotype and IL-10 production IL-17 Th1. This regulatory function is altered in MS (5). Furthermore, the two cytoplasmic isoforms of CD46 exhibit antagonist effects on inflammation in a mouse model, and an increased expression of the pro-inflammatory tail was observed in patients with MS (6). Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a murine model of MS.
