Abstract:
A fundamental resource used by all researchers is the biomedical literature, and access to this literature is now primarily through a single interface, Pubmed/Medline, via a keyword-based search engine. Substantial progress has been made in search engine technology and Natural Language Processing that enables a new class of literature location and analysis tools which can expand upon the ways we use literature, the type and structure of queries, enhance quality (precision and recall) of search results and better visualize and assimilate returned results. We have created a tool, eTBLAST, and a series of derivative resources (TRITE, FRISC, RIC, ARGH) that have been advanced over recent years and have a growing user base to address the need for better text similarity searching.
