Your submitted paragraph:
T cell Class of LYMPHOCYTE which mediates immune recognition and effects CELL- MEDIATED IMMUNE RESPONSES. In general, T cells recognize protein antigens after they have been processed into peptide fragments and become associated with MHC MOLECULES (see ANTIGEN PRESENTATION; ANTIGEN PROCESSING; MAJOR HISTOCOMPATIBILITY COMPLEX) on the surfaces of antigen- presenting or target cells. T cells expressing an ab T CELL RECEPTOR constitute the majority of the peripheral T cells circulating in the blood; those expressing gd receptors are found commonly in epithelial tissues, and their precise role is unknown. All T cells express their antigen-specific receptor at the cell surface as a complex with the CD3 antigen (see T CELL RECEPTOR). T cells can be classified by their function: regulatory T cells include both HELPER T CELLS and SUPPRESSOR T CELLS, whereas the effector population consists
